On the Mend

Well I survived my arthroscopic knee surgery this morning without any major issues. The hardest part may have been waking up at 4:45am and waiting for the procedure to start. Fortunately I have not been in a lot of pain and the doctor reported to P that everything looked great. I've been able to walk around (only when needed) pretty easily but things like going down the stairs and sitting are still painful. I'm glad I'm able to take it easy the rest of the week.

P has been amazing today, he's already got a hang of the "in sickness and health" part. He's made sure I've had the food, liquids, and pain medicines I need and is more than willing to do anything I need him too. Hopefully Calvin will be just as helpful tomorrow.

Thanks to the amazing care package from my awesome future sister-in-law I'm hooked up with plenty of advil, chocolate, and tv watching for the next few days. I've also loaded up the DVR with some of my trashy favorites that P hates and moved all of my scrapbooking supplies to the living room in case I get too bored. I'm sure I'll also keep myself busy with plenty of Pinterest searches and flipping through bridal magazines.

I have a follow-up appointment with my doctor on Thursday and I'm anxious to hear how long I have to wait until I can lace up my running shoes!

Confessional Friday

Happy Friday! I'm trying to be a good Catholic so I'm linking up with Leslie at one of my favorite blogs, Blonde Ambition, for a confessional Friday.

  • I do not follow the NFL nearly as much as I follow college football. But I do love me some Tom Brady, go Patriots!
  • I'm nervous for my knee surgery. Not the surgery itself as it's supposed to be fairly routine, but for the anesthesia required (which I've never had before) and the recovery afterward
  • I have seriously been slacking on my eating. I blame it on the knee. No knee means no gym and no gym usually means I indulge more than I should. Thank god I have 15 months to kick my butt into gear before the wedding
  • Speaking of the wedding, holy decisions! I knew there were lots of decisions to be made when planning our nuptials, but I never knew just how many things there were to consider. Once again, so happy I have 15 months to figure this all out
  • I badly need a pedicure. But due to the 15K I ran in December I am currently missing a toenail (I know, TMI) and refuse to make a pedicurist deal with that
  • Due to doctor's appointments, traveling, holidays, and various other reasons I have not worked a five day work week since the beginning of December. I have a feeling that streak is about to end
  • I will not be able to shower for the first two days after my surgery. Good thing I won't be able to go to work next week or I would be looking (and smelling) rough
  • I probably look at my ring no less than half a dozen times per day
  • I'm tired of my blog template and think this blog needs a new look. Does anyone have any recommendations on a blog designer to use? (UPDATE: I did some redesign work myself, not sure if this is the final look but I'm kind of loving it right now)
I think those are enough confessions for one Friday. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

The Proposal

Without further ado, here is our engagement story....

The Wednesday before Christmas I had been running around picking up dry cleaning and buying toiletries before heading to Ohio to spend the holidays with P's family. When I got home I suggested we get an early dinner so we could focus on laundry and packing later, but P said he wanted to wait an hour. So I started sorting the laundry, pulling out the luggage, and gathering things for the trip. During this time a package had been delivered that P quickly hid in our office area. Anytime I went into that area he would follow me in there and at one point he was being so weird that I told him I wouldn't snoop for the package and I could wait to be surprised in a few days (assuming it was a Christmas gift at this time).

I remember P giving me a hug and telling me he loved me just before saying that he and Calvin had something they wanted to show me on the back patio. I was confused because it had been raining all day and could not think of anything that he would need to possibly show me out there in December. As soon as we stepped outside he quickly turned on lights and I immediately knew what was happening. He had used Christmas lights to spell out "Marry Me?" on the back wall of our patio. Just as I was processing this and the tears started streaming, P started playing Bright Eyes, "First Day of My Life" on his iPhone. The sequence after this gets fuzzy but I clearly remember him down on his knee holding out the ring box - an image I don't think I'll ever forget. He said some incredibly sweet things (that I had to have him repeat later so I could always remember them) before putting the ring on my finger. I could not stop smiling and crying. After the ring was secured on my left hand he gave me a box of long stemmed roses (the mystery package that had arrived)!

The Proposal - I give him a lot of credit for trying to hang lights on
wet bricks with tape and only having Calvin's eyes for help!

My BEAUTIFUL ring !

After going back inside and taking some time to ourselves, P surprised me again with reservations at our favorite Indian restaurant, Bombay Club. We had a wonderful dinner and it felt so special to be the only ones at the time (besides my dad) who knew the exciting news. After dinner we called our immediate family and a few friends to share the news.

The proposal was so romantic and perfectly captured our relationship. And of course it was so special to have Calvin be a part of it too. I know I've said it before on here, but I really feel so lucky and blessed to get to marry my best friend. P has made me so incredibly happy the past seven years and I'm looking forward to many more years of laughter and love as Mrs. P!

Where I've been.....

Obviously I haven't been blogging. I'm blaming that on the fact that the power cord for my laptop is broken and a couple of 10 hour days at work that completely exhausted me. Thankfully my sweet fiance is letting me highjack his computer for a few minutes.

Here's what I've been up to:

Spending a weekend in Norfolk to celebrate Christmas with family

Visiting Washington Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine several times and
finding out I have a torn meniscus which requires surgery on the 24th.

Spending quality time at the VW dealership getting the Jetta checked up

Scouring this website for reception venues and inspiration for 04.13.13

Planning delicious meals to make in the awesome crock-pot
my mom got us for Christmas

I hope everyone has been enjoying their 3-day weekend. We've been catching up on sleep and keeping warm. I promise my next post will not be in 15 days!

Happy New Year!

NYE 2011 at the Newseum

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We have had a very exciting and magical week celebrating the holidays and....

The ring!
.....our engagement! P proposed the night before we left for Ohio with some help from Calvin. It was so perfect and a night I will never forget (more details to come in a later post). It's still surreal to say "I'm engaged" or call him my fiance but I love it! We are both so happy and looking forward to the future. I can't wait for April 13, 2013 when I will become Mrs. P!
